Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in our Combined Internal Medicine
and Pediatrics program.
LAC+USC Medical Center serves a large underserved population
with an incredible range and depth of pathology which leads to
an outstanding clinical education for our residents. Our faculty
is dedicated to teaching and very supportive of resident
research projects.
The training in LAC+USC’s Med+Peds program is primarily at the
LAC+USC medical center which consists of the General Hospital,
Women’s and Children’s Hospital, and as of 2008 the new General
Hospital. We also spend a portion of our training at other
affiliated locations such as Juvenile Hall, Norris Cancer
Center, USC University Hospital, and Children’s Hospital of LA.
We look for motivated residents with a strong emphasis in
serving the underserved and patient advocacy.
The first two years of training are focused on developing a
strong foundation in general medicine and pediatrics with
alternating medicine and pediatrics clinics. The third and
fourth year are dedicated to integrating those experiences
through experiences such as our Med+Peds clinic and Med+Peds
ambulatory rotation. We have a strong tradition of teaching
which has led to 5 pediatric chiefs, 2 internal medicine chiefs,
and 4 teaching awards from the medical students for our Med+Peds
residents in the last 5 years. We are located in Los Angeles, an
amazingly large and diverse city with an amazing array of things
to do within a relatively short distance.
The Pediatrics office coordinates the interviews for
the Med+Peds program. More details can be found in the "Application Information"
section of this website.
Applications should be made through the Electronic Residency
Application Service (ERAS). We look forward to meeting you. If you have
questions prior to your interview, feel free to call us.
Sincerely,
Breck Nichols, M.D., M.P.H.
