A partner institution of the Keck School of Medicine of USC since 1885, Los Angeles County+USC Medical Center is one of the largest academic medical centers in the country. The medical center also provides critical access to health services for the region’s medically underserved.
LAC+USC Medical Center provides a full spectrum of emergency, inpatient and outpatient services. These include medical, surgical, obstetrical, gynecological, intensive care services as well as psychiatric services and emergency/trauma services for all ages of patients from neonatal to elderly.
Staffed by faculty of the Keck School of Medicine, USC physicians provide patient care, lead clinical research and oversee the training of more than 800 medical residents and 600 medical students at the medical center.
As one of the busiest public hospitals in the western United States, LAC+USC Medical Center records nearly 50,000 inpatient discharges, 200,000 emergency department visits, and 1 million ambulatory care visits each year. Although construction has begun for a replacement hospital, the current hospital offers 745 inpatient beds. LAC+USC is the largest single provider of health care in L.A. County, and treats more than 28 percent of trauma victims in the region. In addition, LAC+USC operates one of only three burn centers in the County and one of the few Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units in Southern Califor1nia.
Keck School faculty lead the care for half of both AIDS patients and sickle cell anemia patients in Southern California and provide special clinical care programs for patients with a number of diseases including multiple sclerosis, diabetes, and others.
