As a combined program, we work closely with our internal medicine colleagues. Attached is the welcome letter from Dr. Hsieh, the USC/LA General Internal Medicine Residency Program Director. Further below is a brief introduction to two of our additional training sites for IM, Keck Hospital and Norris Cancer Hospital.

The principal goal of the USC/LA General Internal Medicine Residency Program is to train our residents to be talented and compassionate internists and thus ensure their access to a wide range of career options. Our residents are exposed to a scope of clinical pathology that is truly unrivaled in the United States. The breadth of our curriculum allows us to provide our trainees with a unique range of experiences in both ambulatory and inpatient care. The exceptional clinical opportunities at USC coupled with our structured teaching and clinical programs foster the maturation of USC/LA General Internal Medicine residents into excellent clinicians.

The USC/LA General Internal Medicine Residency is situated on the USC Health Sciences Campus located near metropolitan Los Angeles. The campus is a bustling and stimulating environment comprised of the Keck School of Medicine, the USC School of Pharmacy, Keck Hospital, the Los Angeles General Medical Center and a variety of research institutes dedicated to excellence in teaching, scientific investigation and state of the art clinical care. Over 200 full-time Department of Medicine Faculty work on this campus and contribute to the training of our residents. In addition to having tremendous clinical acumen, our Faculty boast a variety of research programs in basic laboratory science, epidemiology, health outcomes, translational and clinical research. Our residents have the opportunity to work side by side with our faculty on these research projects providing an avenue for incorporation of scientific investigation to their comprehensive medical education."

Keck Hospital of USC

Keck Hospital of USC is a private 411-bed acute care hospital staffed by the more than 500 faculty physicians of the renowned Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California.

USC Norris Cancer Hospital is one of only a few facilities in Southern California built exclusively for cancer research and patient care. The hospital features a designated bone marrow transplantation unit and a surgical unit with specially trained staff who strive to meet the unique needs of cancer patients and their loved ones.

USC Norris Cancer Hospital is affiliated with the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center – one of the original eight comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute. The close affiliation between the hospital and cancer center offers immediate benefit to patients seeking the latest breakthroughs in cancer prevention and treatment. Clinical trials are available for eligible patients who may have failed conventional cancer treatment.

Outpatients seeking diagnostic testing, chemotherapy, radiation treatment, and second opinions are treated on-site. USC Norris Cancer Hospital also has a radiation oncology department equipped with a CyberKnife and a Varian Trilogy Linear Accelerator, providing the latest state-of-the-art technology, such as stereotactic radiosurgery, intensity modulated radiation therapy, and image guided radiation therapy.

USC Norris Cancer Hospital offers advanced treatment in an intimate setting primarily devoted to cancer treatment and research. Treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy, and newer approaches to cancer management, such as immunotherapy and gene therapy.
