PEDS Program
As a combined program, we work closely with our pediatrics colleagues. Attached is the welcome letter from Dr. Cao, the USC/LA General Pediatrics Residency Program Director. Further below are some highlights of the training we offer through pediatrics.
"LAGMC/USC Pediatrics has a long history of providing elite care to the most vulnerable children of Los Angeles County no matter their background. Our goal is to recruit and train residents that are future role models to other physicians. We have such a privilege as program to build habits and promote principles that will last for many years. We hope those habits include a constant desire to provide the most compassionate care to patients and families, to learn and teach others, as well as promote practices and policies that improve equity."

Violence Intervention Program (VIP)

The internationally acclaimed Center for the Vulnerable Child Program (VIP) is a multidisciplinary center dedicated to the care of children, adolescents, and families affected by abuse, neglect, violence, and trauma. Founded in 1984 by Dr. Astrid Heger, VIP has grown into one of the largest and most comprehensive child abuse and family violence programs in the country. Through it's Child Abuse Assessment and Treatment Center (CATC), VIP provides 24/7 forensic evaluations for suspected child abuse and sexual assault, ongoing primary and specialty medical care, mental health services, case management, legal advocacy, and connections to community resources. The program also serves as a medical home for children in foster care. As a regional referral center for LA county, VIP evaluates and treats the majority of child abuse cases in the county while serving the professional community by providing opportunities for advocacy and interdisciplinary education.
VIP also has expanded clinical services to include the Adolescent Care and Transition Clinic (ACT) which assists the transition of teenage patients with chronic medical problems from pediatric to adult services and the Alexis Project, a clinic for LGBTQ+ teens and young adults.

Breathmobile Program

The Breathmobile Program at Los Angeles General Medical Center is an innovative, community based initiative dedicated to improving access to high-quality asthma care for underserved children throughout Los Angeles County. As part of a nationally recognized mobile asthma management model, the Breathmobile brings pediatric allergy and immunology expertise directly to schools and community centers. Staffed by a multidisciplinary team that includes pediatric asthma specialists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and health educators, the program provides comprehensive asthma evaluations, PFT, individualized treatment plans, medication management, and patient and family education. By delivering care in the community and addressing barrier to specialty care, the Breathmobile helps reduced emergency department visits, hospitalizations, and missed school days.
